Forklift Basics
A forklift is an all-around machinery. It is a small vehicle which has attachments on the front which allow it to lift and move a variety of loads. Forklifts are common features inside factories and warehouses. The operator of a forklift must obtain special training, particularly since these equipment work on rear-wheel drive and this could be difficult to get used to until one is familiar with it. Because the forklift carries its load at the front, the center of gravity is continually shifting and this results in the machine being frequently unstable.

Parts
The lift truck driver will sit in the area referred to as the "cat." Its an area protected by metal bars that stretch overhead similar to a roof. On the front of the machinery, the mast is located. The mast is the mechanism which raises and lowers the load with the use of hydraulic cylinders.

Forklift Parts
When searching for information about lift truck parts and aftermarket lift truck parts, it is a good idea to check out the Internet or your local phone directory. Numerous places offer a complete range of forklift parts, forklift accessories and support products.

Structural Components
The overhead guard is part of the top portion of the forklift, whilst the foot guard separates the load from the cabin. A counterweight is situated at the forklift's back and is installed there in order to keep the equipment from falling over.

The tines and Apron
Usually, the load apron is responsible for keeping the load in place while the forks, or metal arms, support the cargo. The tines are capable to be tilted in an effort to balance the cargo. This is accomplished using the hydraulic hoist arm and the tilting ram which powers the upward fork movement.

The Lift Structure
The load apron guard extends over the apron. It functions to keep the load stable as the forks carry it along the track of the arms of the upright.

Mechanics
The forklifts internal combustion engine allows the power to be sent to the machinery wheels, providing the forklift with movement. The wheels have brakes installed so as to enable the driver the chance to stop or slow down the machine as required.

Controls
The lift is operated utilizing hoist controls which look like a bunch of stick-shaped levers. The forklift is driven by utilizing the steering wheel to turn, similar to a car or truck.

Load Rating Plate
The specific safety rating plate is bolted in the cabin. This load rating plate details the weight restrictions for each particular kind of forklift.
