Propane Tank Rules
The gas container, liquefied petroleum system or LP system is a collective term by OSHA which refers to the regulators, piping, hoses, regulators, valves and fittings. Depending on the capacity of the tank, the agency requires certain components. These individual components must undergo standard laboratory testing. The right laboratory approval would show that the system parts meet thickness, construction and pressure standards.
Tank Location
The OSHA is the group which dictates how near the propane tank is situated to ignitable materials, to buildings, to tanks containing flammable liquids, welders and cutting torches. These stringent regulations are in place to make the jobsite really safe for the workers and those others who are in close proximity.
Nameplate Marks
Liquefied Propane systems have to be marked with the name and the address of the container supplier, or tank brand name. The capacity of the container is listed in gallons or pounds, square foot outside surface, pressure and fill level. Furthermore, details about whether or not the container is made to be installed above ground or underground is also visible. These markings should be on a metal plate attached to the container somewhere visible. OSHA requires that every tank must be marked by the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors in order to be considered safe and ready to use.
Tank Modifications and Repairs
Any kind of repairs to LP systems that require welding are regulated by OSHA. Repair personnel and tank owners need to be familiar with standards and regulatory codes that the tanks were manufactured. Welding repairs to any component of the system which is subject to internal pressure has to first comply with these fabrication codes. Other welding is only allowed on lugs, brackets or saddle plates.
OSHA has worked hard to make certain that individuals working with lift trucks and individuals working in the vicinity of forklifts are kept as safe as possible. They have strict training procedures and rules in place so as to make sure that these industrial equipment and their repair processes are handled as safe as possible and with respect. It is essential that businesses follow their rules and steep fines can happen if they are not followed.
