Inspect a Forklift
There are more than 10,000 workplace injuries connected to forklifts happen each year, based on HRSDC and OSHA reports. A lot of these mishaps are caused by driver error. Lack of proper equipment maintenance and inspection results in numerous others. Maintenance and operation of a forklift is not just the reason for personal injuries, but also of damage to property. Forklifts can damage overhead pipes, sprinklers and building structures, and other machines when wrongly operated. The following day by day check ups must be done in order to reduce the chance of forklift mishaps.
Prior to inspecting different fluid levels turn the engine off. Inspect these fluids: fuel, engine oil, hydraulic oil, coolant and brake fluid. The tires also need to be checked for indications of wear and tear. Check the tire air pressure. Check the condition of the forks. The load backrest should be attached securely. Do a visual check of the top-clip retaining pin and heel. Then carry out an inspection of the hydraulic hoses, mast chains, cables and stops. Ensure that the finger and overhead guards are attached securely.
The LP powered forklift has propane tanks that have to be checked for corrosion, damage or rust. The battery's electrolyte levels and charge need to be tested every so often. Seat belts have to be checked for wear and tear. Check to make certain the owner's guidebook is stored on-board the forklift inside a storage compartment. Test the seat belt to make certain the latches are secure. Test the hood latch to make certain that it is functioning as it should.
To make sure there are no unusual engine sounds, start the engine up and listen for any irregularities. If there are, investigate at once. Test the accelerator and the steering controls. The parking break and the service break should be working correctly.
To ensure proper functioning in both forward and reverse, the tilt control and drive control must be checked. The functioning of the lowering control, the hoist and attachment control needs periodic inspection. Check the lights and horn. Afterward check the wipers, heater and defroster to make certain they are working well. Check each gauge to ascertain that it is reading within functional limits.
