Duties of a Forklift Operator
Forklift operators usually are employed in factories and warehouses. Their responsibility is to transport supplies and goods from one place to another. They should be trained to safely operate the lift truck controls. Specialized training is a requirement. Operators should have a background check and pass a drug test.

Performing Checks
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration requires that all forklift drivers perform a daily pre-shift forklift check. Forklift driver training must consist of the proper performance of safety inspections to guarantee optimum functionality. An inspection should also be done at the end of every shift. Regular safety training should be undertaken every year.

Loading and Unloading
The forklift operator is tasked with the job of loading and unloading materials in a safe and timely way. This responsibility also includes the organized stacking of supplies so they are accessible.

Weighing Materials
Weighing the materials that are to be moved could be part of the lift truck driver's duties.

Quality Control
Forklift operators are in charge of quality control. They should make sure that products do not sustain damage during transportation inside the warehouse and orders are correct.

Safety Awareness
Lift truck drivers should have good skills in both awareness and attention. Operators have to be highly concerned with the safety of personnel and pedestrians. The driver should find the safest way to deal with challenges, such as navigating a steep surface with a cargo. The operator should determine the route that is the safest. A driver's training will involve learning about the forces that can cause a lift truck to tip over. The operator must be really familiar with the design and safety ratings of the forklift unit which they are utilizing. A forklift driver has to be sensitive to the need for breaks to prevent fatigue. Mishaps connected to forklifts are more likely to take place when a driver is tired.
