How to Charge a Scissor Lift
There is a great convenience when utilizing a scissor lift, since the convenience of working and the lift basket's security provides peace of mind while attempting to carry out tasks that would have otherwise required using the rung of a ladder. The safety risks involved with this equipment make it the best alternative for performing jobs from heights.
Nearly all scissor lifts are powered electrically by batteries which have been mounted directly onto the machinery. These batteries will have to be charged following a long shift or after sitting for extended periods without use. It is a simple task to charge the batteries. This can be carried out without any specialized tools or equipment and requires no heavy labor.
In order to prepare the scissor lift for charging, park the machinery near an electrical outlet. Make sure you are doing this in a well-ventilated area. Then, in order to avoid another operator from driving away with the lift plugged in, press the emergency shut-off switch. The emergency shut off switch is the big red button situated near the charger or the control box, inside the lift basket. Find the battery charger on the base of the lift on the right side. Often, older units would have the charger mounted on the rear of the lift.
The AC extension cord should next be plugged into the charger. Be sure to charge in a well ventilated area and plug the cord into an electrical outlet. So as to avoid accidental damage from being run over, the length of the electrical cord on the battery charger is purposely short. This is because if any excess length were to drop out of the battery charger storage place when in use, extreme danger could likely occur.
